Summary

THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED DEBUT BOOK OF POETRY FROM LANA DEL REY, VIOLET BENT BACKWARDS OVER THE GRASS

“Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass is the title poem of the book and the first poem I wrote of many。 Some of which came to me in their entirety, which I dictated and then typed out, and some that I worked laboriously picking apart each word to make the perfect poem。 They are eclectic and honest and not trying to be anything other than what they are and for that reason I’m proud of them, especially because the spirit in which they were written was very authentic。” —Lana Del Rey

Lana’s breathtaking first book solidifies her further as “the essential writer of her times” (The Atlantic)。 The collection features more than thirty poems, many exclusive to the book: Never to Heaven, The Land of 1,000 Fires, Past the Bushes Cypress Thriving, LA Who Am I to Love You?, Tessa DiPietro, Happy, Paradise Is Very Fragile, Bare Feet on Linoleum, and many more。 This beautiful hardcover edition showcases Lana’s typewritten manuscript pages alongside her original photography。 The result is an extraordinary poetic landscape that reflects the unguarded spirit of its creator。

Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass is also brought to life in an unprecedented spoken word audiobook which features Lana Del Rey reading fourteen select poems from the book accompanied by music from Grammy Award–winning musician Jack Antonoff。

So beautifully written and so emotive that speaks colorful messages。 Aesthetically speaking it's everything you expect from the Queen Lana Del Rey。 It's such a beautiful book for any moment in life you're going through。 So beautifully written and so emotive that speaks colorful messages。 Aesthetically speaking it's everything you expect from the Queen Lana Del Rey。 It's such a beautiful book for any moment in life you're going through。 。。。more

personally i listened to the audio book, so that might have been both good and bad based on lana's stylistic choices in some of her poems; however, most of these were poems i could listen to forever。 i've read a lot of the one star reviews for this collection, and WOW do i disagree with them。 these are beautiful poems and i will definitely be relistening often! personally i listened to the audio book, so that might have been both good and bad based on lana's stylistic choices in some of her poems; however, most of these were poems i could listen to forever。 i've read a lot of the one star reviews for this collection, and WOW do i disagree with them。 these are beautiful poems and i will definitely be relistening often! 。。。more

What can I say, I've been a hardcore fan of Lana and her music since times immemorial, and although I know I'm quite late, but it's always better late than never。Outstanding。 Marvellous。 Out of the fucking world。 The amount of rawness in all of these poems continue to baffle me, as do the overall concepts of each poem。 Believe it or not, I don't like reading poems, but this right here, made me sit back and think。 All of them of stellar but my absolute favourites are The Land Of 1000 Fires, Sport What can I say, I've been a hardcore fan of Lana and her music since times immemorial, and although I know I'm quite late, but it's always better late than never。Outstanding。 Marvellous。 Out of the fucking world。 The amount of rawness in all of these poems continue to baffle me, as do the overall concepts of each poem。 Believe it or not, I don't like reading poems, but this right here, made me sit back and think。 All of them of stellar but my absolute favourites are The Land Of 1000 Fires, Sportcruiser, Never To Heaven and Quite Waiter Blue Forever。 Once again I'll say that only Lana can create such masterpieces, and a small review won't express the amount of sheer respect and love I have for her and her work。 Love you so so so much Mom, keep feeding us this way ♡ 。。。more

This is not going to be a proper review or anything but I just wanted to let out, how disappointed I feel。 First and foremost, I picked this up because she is one of my favourite artists and is always on top of my music playlists。 I love her songs and music making style and I think that is why I had fairly high expectations from this poetry book。 Quite a lot of her songs are beautifully poetic and I can never stop loving them。 But this book, well, it didn't make any sense to me, if I had to summ This is not going to be a proper review or anything but I just wanted to let out, how disappointed I feel。 First and foremost, I picked this up because she is one of my favourite artists and is always on top of my music playlists。 I love her songs and music making style and I think that is why I had fairly high expectations from this poetry book。 Quite a lot of her songs are beautifully poetic and I can never stop loving them。 But this book, well, it didn't make any sense to me, if I had to summarise my experience in one line。Not being pretentious or anything, but I have read a fairly good amount of poetry from various eras and genres, but none of the verses in this book struck a chord with me。 I was almost about to drop this book midway but since she is one of my favourite artists, I kind of gave her book an anti-DNF privilege。 There's a good possibility that I stumbled across this book at the wrong time but then I cannot deny the fact that it left me clueless because I just had no idea what the different pieces of poetry were trying to express no matter how many times I re-read them。 Somehow I didn't want to give up on this book but I guess it was just not for me。 。。。more

I enjoy Lana Del Rey’s music so picked this up from the library。 It was… ok。 That being said, I am in NO WAY an avid poem reader, so take my rating with a grain of salt。

I've read this book thousands of times and each time I'm left speechless。 I may be biased because I'm a huge Lana Del Rey fan but it's truly a beautifully written book。 When reading the book I have found many references from her music as well as many storylines that she has also shared in her music。 The photography and cover may not be mind-blowing but adds so much authenticity and realness to the book knowing she photographed the pictures in the book and painted the cover。 This poetry book is a I've read this book thousands of times and each time I'm left speechless。 I may be biased because I'm a huge Lana Del Rey fan but it's truly a beautifully written book。 When reading the book I have found many references from her music as well as many storylines that she has also shared in her music。 The photography and cover may not be mind-blowing but adds so much authenticity and realness to the book knowing she photographed the pictures in the book and painted the cover。 This poetry book is amazing and is about her past relationships and experiences that she has had, and is my favorite poetry book of all time。 This book is definitely worth your time 10/10 。。。more

loved most of the poems except from the haikus tbh, to me it felt like she only included those to fill the pages in the book which i didn‘t like at all。 however, most of the other poems (which made up the greater part anyway) were GORGEOUS as we‘re originally used to from lana

I know her songs are beautiful and ethereal and so is this book。 Poetic and calming。 Light and deep。 Soft and rough。

This book made me feel so many things。 Haven’t been touched like this in a long while。 Everything was perfect, from the aesthetic of typewritten poetry beside photographs, to each and every word。 Lana del ray is so very talented, wow。

This is so beautiful! I highly recommend listening to it instead of just reading it, Lana’s voice matches the words beat for beat and never misses! And I also loved the background music, although the dreamy music that the last couple had wasn’t quite for me, but would be nice to fall asleep to Ig。 Can’t believe I passed up getting this on vinyl at Barnes and noble a couple months ago! If I see it again, I will def be copping。 Anyway, yeah, it’s really beautiful, I loved all the poems except the This is so beautiful! I don’t know why I went into this with such low expectations。 It may be because I’ve read so much modern poetry so I’m just kinda over it。 HOWEVER Holy crap I loved this poetry collection! I need more like this! I love her music so much and this poetry collection just as much! Love love love!

3。5 stars。 I really enjoyed the audiobook version and some of the poems were incredible。 I didn’t think any of them were particularly bad, just good。

I am a massive fan of Lana, but i have to say i thoroughly enjoyed this。 Am i biased? Maybe a bit。 But there are some truly amazing works in the book。 She has a distinct voice throughout the book, which is to be expected。 She also knows how to structure poetry, it was all very melodic and flowed beautifully, which only added to the appeal for me。 The haikus weren’t very good, majority of them i didn’t really care for。 There were a couple poems that definitely lost my attention towards the end, b I am a massive fan of Lana, but i have to say i thoroughly enjoyed this。 Am i biased? I've never though of a book as "catchy" before but here we are。 I'm haven't listened to a lot of Lana Del Rey songs and maybe I should because although the poems are very "catchy" and could easily be put into songs I didn't understand what half of them where about。 I knew the words and understood some of the sentences but often I didn't know how it all came tougheter。 I'm not a very poetry person and not the right one to read it but I can at least say I gave it a try I've never though of a book as "catchy" before but here we are。 I'm haven't listened to a lot of Lana Del Rey songs and maybe I should because although the poems are very "catchy" and could easily be put into songs I didn't understand what half of them where about。 I knew the words and understood some of the sentences but often I didn't know how it all came tougheter。 I'm not a very poetry person and not the right one to read it but I can at least say I gave it a try 。。。more
